Manhattan Architect

Manhattan Architect
By Darren China, R.A.

Studio China Architecture + Design is a Manhattan based architecture and interior design firm.  As architects and interior designers we help our clients explore their creative ideas, the process of making a space and lastly the experience of occupying the final built environment.  Studio China Architecture + Design works with innovative, bold and creative clients interested in a pleasurable and highly productive experience while designing and building their place of business, new home, investment property, country retreat or renovating their current co-op/condo/Townhouse. Our clients are interested in exploring their design options to uncover the most comfortable environment in which to live and most profitable in which to work.

Apartment Renovation

The clients envisioned refurbishing their newly purchased 1700 square foot apartment while also taking advantage of the natural light in the kitchen to liven up a dark, small existing dining room.  By removing a wall between the kitchen and dining room an expansive space was created allowing light to flood through the living space and further defining public from private space.  The challenging confines of the master bathroom resulted in a design solution which utilized an oversized mirror and floating vanity to create a more spacious environment.  An expansive color pallet was employed to further enhance the liveliness of the apartment.

Co-op Bathroom Redesign

New York City is flush with confined floor plans as was the case in this bathroom located in a building constructed in 1929. Renovation possibilities were restricted by the doors on two walls and a large window at one end. The room was dismantled and reconstructed with a glass shower enclosure set up to allow light to penetrate from the window. A radiator was moved and concealed in a vanity cabinet, assembled using stainless steel legs and grooved doors for heat circulation. Ornate elements from the apartment were continued in the bathroom including crown moldings and crackled ceramic tiles on the walls, while penny round tiles were used on the floor.

Office Space Design

This cutting edge chiropractic and wellness center looked to Studio China Architecture + Design to help reestablish its brand and design their flag ship office on Wall Street.  As a place of physical rejuvenation the client asked that the space invoke relaxation.  This inspired a calming color and material palette found throughout the 2100 square foot office. Natural mahogany woods and marble were set against a complimentary green and off white color scheme.  A wall housing educational materials and plasma TV was set floating above the floor and guides patience to treatment, massage rooms and a physical therapy space.

At the core of all our work is the belief that great design matters and contributes exponentially to the quality of one’s life and work.
